Super Bowl Sunday DUI Check Points
Contra Costa County is teaming up with the NFL, California Office of Traffic Safety and law enforcement officials to remind everyone to designate a sober driver if they plan to be drinking alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday.
Super Bowl Sunday has become one of the nation’s most dangerous days on the roadways due to impaired driving. The Avoid the DUI Task Force will be deploying DUI saturation patrols throughout the county targeting those who drive impaired. Last year in California 11 people were killed and another 133 were injured in alcohol involved collisions on Super Bowl Sunday, that is 3 times the daily average.
If you are hosting or attending a Super bowl party:
- Remember you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you served ends up in an impaired-driving crash.
- Take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired.
- Never let a friend get behind the wheel of their vehicle if you think they are about to drive while impaired.

How Passport to Clayton Works
How Passport to Clayton Works
An Example: the Smith Family
The Smith family is civic-minded and participates in many local organizations. They also spend time with friends in downtown, dining at La Veranda, grabbing a beer at Ed’s Mudville Grill, and dancing at the Clayton Club Saloon to live music.
When the couple heard of the Passport to Clayton program, they were intrigued. Not only could they support the local Clayton community through a tax-deductible donation, but they could also receive everyday discounts and benefits at businesses they already visit.
Richard and Mary decided to donate $100 to the P2C Foundation, providing them with a Passport to Clayton. In recognition of Mary’s love for reading and children’s literacy, they choose to designate a portion of their donation to the Clayton Library Foundation, knowing that the remaining proceeds would likewise support other Clayton organizations.
But the impact did not stop there. Now, when the couple goes out for date night, they receive benefits as a Passport to Clayton holder: $10 off their meal at La Veranda, free corkage and calamari fritti at Moresi’s Chophouse, or a complimentary appetizer at Pavilion Bar & Grill, as an example. During one evening the couple saved money by shopping locally, while the community benefited from their donation to the P2C Foundation. When they shop or dine at other Passport to Clayton businesses, they continue to save money every day, totaling hundreds of dollars in savings each year.
Together, with the P2C Foundation, the Smiths are making a difference in their community.
